Powderham Castle appoints Estate Director
The Earl & Countess of Devon have appointed Simon Fishwick to the new post of Estate Director. This position has been created to facilitate cohesion between the many commercial aspects of the Estate.
Simon Fishwick (56), who was initially employed by the Castle twelve months ago to cover the General Manager’s maternity leave, has a wealth of credentials in leadership. After a successful career in the Army he returned to Devon to take up the post of Permanent Secretary to the University of Exeter Guild of Students. Over a period of 14 years he developed the commercial and membership services within the organisation as well as representing the study body to the University.
Simon Fishwick, on his appointment:
“Powderham Castle is a fine example of our heritage and still remains a privately owned family home. I am delighted to have been offered the opportunity to take the business forward and develop new commercial opportunities for the Estate.”
In his capacity as Estate Director he will be responsible for all aspects of the estate. With the support of a dedicated team of permanent and seasonal staff he aims to develop the business with particular emphasis on wedding receptions and the corporate business side.

“The past twelve months have been great fun. I have learnt a lot about the operation and acquired an understanding of where focus is needed to make Powderham Castle a viable entity. The estate has an enormous amount of potential for a variety of events from wedding receptions to corporate events/days through to full blown concerts in the deer park. My aim is to make Powderham Castle the venue of choice for this area. We have great indoor facilities and stunning grounds, which combine to make this estate unbeatable as a venue. My role will be to ensure that we realise that potential ensuring that Powderham Castle can be enjoyed by both the future generations of the family and our visitors.
