Crealy appoints local contractors November 2009

Crealy appoints local contractors for £150,000 ride investment

Crealy Great Adventure Park, near Exeter has appointed local building contractors, Michael Thorne to complete the £150,000 investment in improving the family rollercoaster at Devon's Crealy Great Adventure Park this winter.

The runaway mine train ride is being reinvented as Maximus, a Roman themed rollercoaster, which will re-open in time for February half term.

The improvement plans include covering the highest section of track, and a complete re-theme of the surrounding structure.

The new theming has been designed by premier attraction themers Space Leisure UK, who have worked with some of the UK's largest visitor attractions.

Crealy's rollercoaster was originally opened by Phillip Schofield and has become one of the county's most iconic rides, along with Crealy's other main rides the Swinging Queen Bess Pirate Ship and Tidal Wave Log Flume.

Angela Wright, MBE, Managing Director of Crealy said, "Updating the coaster as Maximus is Crealy paying homage to the legendary park of 2,000 years ago when Romans lived in Isca, as Exeter was known then.

“We are so excited to be improving one of our most popular rides. It will give the ride a breath of fresh air and create a whole new riding experience for our guests, many of whom already love the rollercoaster here at Crealy. We always invest heavily in new rides and improving current ones, and next year is no exception. Along with the improvements to the rollercoaster we are also investing in two new attractions, which are currently top secret!"

Although the coaster at Crealy is closed until February, the swingboat and three indoor play areas are open through the Winter from Thursdays to Sundays during termtime and daily in the school holidays.
