Moving image piece by artist and choreographer Ruth Bell
More information

Calling of the Tide (2021) is a dance and video artwork by choreographer and artist Ruth Bell.

Inspired by the Devon coastline, the work explores and responds to the shoreline as a place where the land meets the sea – where, for Bell, she finds ‘limitless possibilities’.

Originally created for the Exeter Northcott Futures programme, the intention was to find new ways of working with the video camera. The artist took the landscape into the dance studio whilst exploring dance choreography in the landscape. This final work responds directly to the sculptural and rock formations of the natural environment.
