Age of the Dinosaurs at Kents Cavern

Travel Back in Time at Kents Cavern to The Age of the Dinosaurs

Visitors to Kents Cavern will soon be able to encounter dinosaurs inside Britain’s oldest home, as the caves launch a brand-new exhibition exploring the Age of the Dinosaurs. Running from April to October 2026, the exhibition will take visitors on a journey into Earth’s distant past, introducing the extraordinary creatures that roamed the planet long before humans ever set foot in the caves.

Inside the dramatic underground setting, visitors will encounter a collection of replica dinosaur skeletons, offering a fascinating glimpse into the lives of these prehistoric giants.
The Exhibition has been created by Dinosaur Skeletons, a specialist studio based in Cockington, dedicated to producing museum-grade palaeontological reconstructions. Founded by Alex Pritchard, a professional Paleoartist with over 13 years of experience in both the palaeontology and high-end collectibles industries, the studio is internationally recognised for its striking, highly detailed, and scientifically informed skeletal mounts. Alex said “It’s so exciting to be able to show case my work in such a unique setting. Kents
Cavern is an incredible prehistoric cave where history is brought to life by entertaining tour guides every single day. I’m glad that Dinosaur Skeletons can help expand the story being told here”.

One of the exhibition’s standout features will be the world’s first mounted reconstruction of Shri rapax, meticulously created by Alex. The mount is based on original fossil material and reflects the latest scientific research, bringing to life a rare and fascinating member of the raptor family. Other highlights include a 10-metre long Allosaurus called Achillies and “Evie” a juvenile Trex. Kents Cavern already tells the story of human life stretching back over 500,000 years, but this new exhibition invites visitors to step into a new part of our planet’s timeline, to a time when dinosaurs ruled our planet.

General Manager Elliot Ling said “We can’t wait for people to explore Age of the Dinosaurs. Kents Cavern is unrivalled when it comes to telling stories about prehistory. Our rocks have witnessed unimaginable events across time, the formation of super continents, the rise and fall of the dinosaurs, numerous Ice Ages and the arrival of the oldest modern humans in Britain. This exhibition adds another exciting chapter to our incredible story”. Alongside the exhibition, a programme of family-friendly events and discovery experiences will run throughout the summer, including:
• May Half Term Dino Explorers – hands-on activities for young adventurers
• Cinema in the Caves – underground screenings including Jurassic Park, Tomb Raider and Jumanji
• How to Build a Dinosaur Discovery Evening – a fascinating talk, hosted by Alex Pritchard, revealing how the dinosaur skeletons are created and reconstructed.

Together, the caves and the dinosaurs create a unique experience where visitors can explore extraordinary chapters of Earth’s history, the Ice Age world of the caves and the even older Age of the Dinosaurs. This event promises a roaring prehistoric adventure for families, explorers and dinosaur fans of all ages.

The exhibition runs from Friday 3rd April – Sunday 1st November and is included with standard entry. The exhibition is viewable at your own leisure at the end of your cave tour.
It is recommended to pre-book tour tickets online.
