Torre Abbey celebrates the English Riviera UNESCO Global Geopark

This half term the team at Torre Abbey will be celebrating the unique English Riviera UNESCO Global Geopark Status, with a range of free and paid for activities that all the family can enjoy.

The annual festival provides the ideal opportunity for locals and visitors to discover what makes Torbay’s geological and cultural history so unique and special.

As one of the key Geopark partner sites, Torre Abbey will be hosting a range of activities to show how naturally inspiring Torbay is.

Saturday 25 May

If Not Now – an interactive performance workshop exploring the relationship with the current plastic crisis, raising important environmental questions using playful storytelling and games.

Sunday 26 May

Super Fossils at Torre Abbey – Make your own fossil cape and race against other super fossils in an obstacle course around Torre Abbey Gardens.

Tuesday 28 May

Fossil Hunt & Street Art – join us for a fossil hunt then use Devon soil to create your own Devonian fossil street art. Learn about our local Geopark and discover the fossils that can be found in and around the Abbey.

Thursday 30 May

Scrap Rocks and Fossils – learn about the Geology of Torbay, the life in our tropical Devonian waters and make your own small or giant fossil out of scrap.

Friday 31 May

Ancient Bugs Grow Big – make a big beautiful dragonfly whilst exploring the world of just how big insects used to be and why.
