A challenging route following the supposed trading routes between the Medieval Abbeys of Tavistock and Buckfast
A challenging route following the supposed trading routes between the Medieval Abbeys of Tavistock and Buckfast and later Jobbers paths of wool traders and miners. As part of Buckfast Abbey’s 1000 year Anniversary the end of this year’s walk will be at Buckfast Abbey where walkers can enjoy hearing a peal of the Abbey’s iconic bells as they finish.
This is a unique chance to finish the walk at Buckfast Abbey (not start) reversing the walks route for the last 55 years. As well as a significant event in our Millennium Celebrations this year we also offer our congratulations to Tavistock Parish Church who celebrate their 700 year anniversary.
The Abbotsway Walk is a marshalled route across the Moor, making this challenge a great one for groups of experienced walkers. The event itself is run by the Tavistock & District Outdoor Education Forum in association with Spirit of Adventure and Buckfast Abbey.
