Julia Hopkin (University of Exeter Researcher)
Ever wondered how people in the past made their clothes? And how we know what they did? This talk is a basic introduction to the many techniques ancient people used to construct practical, comfortable and beautiful textiles. Julia Hopkin combines craft demonstrations and archaeological expertise to take you through the history of textiles in Europe, from their appearance in the Stone Age to the advent of mechanised production in the Medieval period, and how they can be reconstructed from archaeological evidence.
