The BFG in Pictures comes to Torre Abbey this summer

The BFG in Pictures is the first major exhibition of artwork by Quentin Blake for Roald Dahl’s enduring tale.

The BFG, the story of orphan Sophie and her giant friend was first published in 1982. It has remained in print ever since, selling more than 50 million copies.

The BFG represents a unique moment in Blake and Dahl’s working life. Dahl first told the story of the BFG to his children and named Sophie after his granddaughter. He described the story as the favourite of his own works.

When Blake first completed the illustrations for the book Dahl (unusually) rejected them. Blake embarked on a second set in dialogue with Dahl. The published illustrations are the result of their closest collaboration.

About the exhibition

The BFG in Pictures is a touring exhibition from House of Illustration featuring reproductions of Quentin Blake’s illustrations for Roald Dahls much loved story. the exhibition curated by Quentin Blake, contains 40 reproductions of illustrations that weren’t used when the book was first published in 1982. They provide a unique insight into the development of one of the most iconic characters in children’s literature and a glimpse of a BFG that might have been……
